The most famous tourist attraction in India – Taj Mahal is now live on Google Maps Street View. BBC made a video report about this visit by Google.
More Indian sites will soon be on Google Street View. For now the government has not allowed Google to take images in the streets, only at special landmarks and businesses. BBC made a visit to Taj Mahal, the most famous landmark of India, together with Google Street View. See the report here:
Mumbai based indian map service Wonobo today released it’s own Street View service. So far only parts of India is covered, but that’s still more than Google Street View offer in this nation.
You can see street level images from 12 cities in India right now and it will soon expand to 54 cities. Google have had problems getting permission to take similar Street View images in India. Wonobo is loading very slow today. I guess there has been a lot of traffic this first day.
Indian design and cartoon makers Doodlewala is now on Google Street View.
For a couple of months now we’ve seen images from inside businesses pop up on Google Street View India. Google announced today they have teamed up with the Archaeological Survey of India and the Ministry of Culture to take images of over a 100 Indian monuments.
Qutub Minar in New Delhi is the tallest historical tower in India at 238 feet.
Update: The 100 heritage sites are not yet online. Google announced they will start to take those photos next week. What is available today are some Business photos from palaces and monuments. It will take Google a couple more months to add the 100 heritage sites to Street View. This will include the Taj Mahal, Khajuraho, Qutab Minar (which is already online as you can see above, so maybe more images from there?) and Ajanta and Ellora caves.
