This aircraft is coming in for a landing at John Wayne International. It bears a strong appearance of being a Bombardier Global Express.
An older model of 737, probably a 300 or 400 series.
The ship is listed as ‘LST’ or ‘Landing Ship, Tank’ but you’ll note the strong similarity to a small carrier or a carrier for an amphibious force. The Japanese Constitution forbids the construction of aircraft carriers, so this type of ship end up falling into strange categories.
A group of Japanese enthusiasts worked to create a mobile suit of Gundam armor. I’ve seen still pictures of it while they were apparently getting it to move, but have never seen a video. Eventually, the creation was donated to this rest stop to sit under its own pavillion.
There’s also a Yushio class training submarine that is based at Kure, but the numeric probability indicates it’s an active Harushio class diesel-powered attack submarine.
The Akishio was a Yushio class diesel-electric attack submarine. It was commissioned in March, 1986 and decommissioned in 2004. It’s 76.2 meters long and 9.9 meters in beam. It could make 20 knots submerged and carried a crew of 75.
PL-02 Esan is a Japan Coast Guard ship. “PL” stands for ‘Patrol Craft, Large’. It’s a Shiretoko class cutter. It’s 77.8m long, is crewed by 40 sailors, can reach 20 knots, and is armed with either a 20mm or 35mm gun.
The Longaberger Basket Company decided to make their building advertise what their primary product is, just as much as their company name does.
These two male statues at the Kafka Museum are peeing into a fountain at their feet. They are also animated and can write words with their streams, the phrases sent to them via texting. You can find YouTube videos of them as well.
