Google Maps Street View now inside museums!

About Street View · 1 comment

This is the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

You can now take a look inside 17 of the worlds most famous art galleries on maps.google.com/museums. Among those galleries: Versailles in France, Tate in London and the Hermitage in St Petersburg, Russia.

I’ve only visited 4 of those 17 galleries in real life. How many have you visited and where would you like to go?

Some more info about this new museum project by Google from Google LatLong:

The Art Project, developed by a group of art-loving Googlers, is a collaboration between Google and 17 of the world’s most acclaimed museums. Select works of art chosen by these partners are now available for you to explore through Street View in Google Maps, and the Art Project site offers an immersive experience to explore museum information, floor plans, more than 1000 high-resolution pieces, and Street View imagery. 1. Personally, I think the colours are very faded. The paintings are less coloured as the originals.

For example: Van Gogh’s Sunflowers on Google Art:

On the other hand: if the colours in the pictures on Google Art were brilliant, there would be less people visiting these museums. Personally I think there’s nothing like standing inches away from the real thing.

But maybe they will update these pics as well as they do the streetviews…
