Some interesting news today about Street View from Poland and Finland + some bad news.
Poland is not yet on Street View, but it will happen soon. First out will be the Piotrkowska Street in Lodz. This street won an internet competition to be the first street to go live when Street View is released in Poland. More
Finland will get another visit in August by Street View. This time trikes will take photos where cars can’t go, on bike paths etc. More
And then there’s this not so good rumour. A google driver said this to someone in San Diego:
“One thing people can do to protect their privacy is keep their garage doors closed. I try re-driving a street if there’s an open garage door or if people are out with their kids. We have software for blurring faces, but we’re working on new technology for removing people and cars completely and adding a white square over an open garage door.”
I don’t trust this info. The garage thing sounds really weird. And the technology to remove people already exist, but Google has not used it. If the story about removing people is real – that would make Street View sort of lifeless. I’m not so sure Google would want to do that. Sounds strange that google drivers would break such news. Apparently this story was a tip from a reader and the reader got some money. My verdict? Fake. What do you think?
Agreed. Fake.
Google has also started to take Street View images in Croatia now.
uh, obviously the garage thing is untrue, i can look into my neigbors garage with streetview, haha, check it out to the left 2 houses to the left of my neighbor at 1802 chestnut st san carlos ca
